Life @ Crossway North – Online Bulletin

Welcome

April 23rd, 2017

Seize the Day

Today we have the privilege of hearing from Scott Pilgrim, the new Executive Pastor from Crossway Eastern Suburbs. This is what Scott’s Twitter Page says about him: “Married to Megan with a scattered ‘Brady Bunch’ family across two states. Now living in Melbourne (from NSW) and privileged to serve on the Crossway Baptist Church team.”

Scott’s theme today is “Seize the Day”, from a Podcast message I heard him preach a couple of weeks ago. I was so moved by the message and how relevant it was for us, as a community at Crossway North, that I asked Scott if he would be able to come over and share it with you all too!!

God is doing incredibly amazing things here at North and there are open doors that have been shut tight in the past. Isaiah 43:19 (NIV) “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” I think the challenge for us all is to embrace what God is doing here at North and to seize what He is calling us to do, individually & corporately, with His passion!!

God bless,

Michelle Mitchell

Life @ Crossway North – Online Bulletin

Welcome

April 9th, 2017

Fun, Fellowship, and Faith

This past week, Michelle and I were thankful to be able to join our youth on Camp at Anglesea. It was great to get to know some of our youth better – they are a great bunch of kids. It was wonderful to see our youth bond with each other and other young people. It was fantastic to see our youth encounter God in a deeper way, and the weather was brilliant! However, it was also good for me to engage with God through the experience.

During the camp the Lord reminded me how vital it is to nurture ‘our first love’ and a passion for him. To the Church in Ephesus it was written, ‘I know your deeds, your hard work and your perseverance. … You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name, and have not grown weary. Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first’ (Revelation 2:2-4).

As we grow, persevere and endure let us ensure our hearts remain soft and our love for God remains our first priority (Matthew 6:33).

Love God, love others and serve the world.

Brett.

Life @ Crossway North – Online Bulletin

Welcome

April 2nd, 2017

Love

Did you know that Christianity is the largest religion in the world? There are over two billion Christians out of a population of around 7.5 billion people. Conparatively, Islam has over 1.2 billion adherents, Hinduism has over 828 million and Buddhism has over 376 million adherents. There are also over 634 million agnostics and atheists. So why am telling you this?

If you were to sum up Christianity in one word what word would you choose? For me Christianity is about love. Jesus said for God SO LOVED the world in John 3:16. Jesus was asked by the teachers of his day what was the greatest commandment and in Matthew 22:37-40 said it was to love God with everything you have and love your neighbour as you love your self. The Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 13 said the greatest thing we can have and share is love.

Christianity is about love. We need Christians who are soaked in God’s love who will then share that love with the world in which we live in. Crossway North is a community of love. If we want to see more people from other religions come into the Christian faith then let’s celebrate God’s love for humanity. If we want a church that moves deeper in it’s faith then let’s love God, each other and the hurting world which we live in.

Blessings,

Rob

Life @ Crossway North – Online Bulletin

Welcome

March 26th, 2017

Baptism

This Sunday, we conduct a Service that includes Baptism. In describing what Baptism is I like to explain it in the following way, featuring the vowels of the English language; A, E, I, O, U.

A – Acceptance
Baptism is for those who have accepted Jesus as their Lord and Saviour. It is distinct from a christening in that the ‘Believer’ is the one who decides to follow Jesus (Romans 10:9) not a person’s parents who may lovingly christen their child

E – Empowerment
There is a ‘transaction’ of sorts in the blessings of God and His empowerment to live and walk the Christian faith. Although, this is something less tangible that we can measure it is real nonetheless

I – Identification
Baptism is a way to identify with Jesus in his death, burial and resurrection. We declare our willingness to die to sin, be buried (under the water – full immersion) and to be raised to new life (coming up out of the water)

O – Obedience
Fundamentally, Baptism is an act of obedience (Matthew 28:19-20). It is not a graduation to a higher spirituality or a more mature faith but as an act of early and basic obedience

U – You
There’s no reason it can’t be YOU!

God Bless,

Brett Mitchell.

Welcome

March 19th, 2017

Fridge Magnets

Fridges are a vital part of any modern home. They contain the food we need for nourishment and keep it at the right temperature to ensure our food doesn’t perish as quickly as it might without the proper refrigeration. There are however, other important tasks our fridges perform: they provide a platform for our family pictures, portraits and party invitations.

We have had a portrait of the Hamilton family on our fridge for over a decade. They minister in Eastern Europe with a group called Young Life in places like Belarus and Lithuania. This little photo reminds me to pray for this special family – Sunday, at Crossway North, we have the joy of hearing from them in person so that we might become better at being ‘globally aware’ of what God is doing around the world.

God Bless,

Brett Mitchell.

Life @ Crossway North – Online Bulletin

Welcome

March 12th, 2017

With God, A Little Can Go a Long Way

I believe God places principles in life so we can learn. One of those principles is that from little things big things grow. You plant a seed and, with a bit of nurture, you have a plant or tree. Jesus spoke about the mustard seed in scripture. He said if you take one of the smallest seeds and you plant it, it grows into a large tree. In fact, if you put a dot on your finger with a pen you will see how small a mustard seed actually is. When it’s full grown it will reach a height of 7 metres with a canopy of 7 metres.

Scripture shows us that God starts with small things to bring big things. Today I am speaking about Elisha and the widow, who had nothing but a small jar of oil, and how one of the most interesting miracles in scripture happens from small things.

Jesus said if you have faith as small as a mustard seed you can tell a mountain to go throw itself into the sea. It’s not about having a huge amount of faith, it’s about God’s ability to provide. We can come to him with our insignificant and He can turn it into something of significance. He can take things that are little and make them go a long way.

Let me encourage you if you are facing something that seems insurmountable to come to God and give Him what you have, no matter how small it is. God does miracles today just as He did with the widow with the small jar of oil. From little things big things grow.

God Bless

Life @ Crossway North – Online Bulletin

Welcome

March 5th, 2017

Stepping Into the Call of God

Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. (Matthew 9:35-36 NIV)

Jesus saw the crowds and He was moved with compassion. Today, the Lord looks out over Craigieburn and the surrounding areas and He sees the people who are harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. ‘When He [looks] out over the crowds, His heart [breaks]’ (MSG).

In this passage, the Lord exhorts the disciples to pray that He would raise up workers for the harvest. Just over ten years ago, the Lord raised up workers for this area and gave birth to what is today Crossway North. He has strategically placed us in one of the growth corridors of Melbourne as workers in an ever-increasing harvest. We have an exciting vision for 2017 and beyond, and His promise is for more to come. The question for each of us is, “What is God’s purpose in placing me in this church at this time?”

God has a purpose and plan in bringing each of us here at this time (Jeremiah 29:11; Esther 4:14). His exhortation is for each of us to step into His calling and into all He has for us, for the sake of the harvest and to glorify His name.

God Bless

Life @ Crossway North – Online Bulletin

WelcomeFebruary 26th, 2017

Recognising the Voice of God

How can we recognize the voice of God? This question has been asked by countless people throughout the ages. Samuel heard the voice of God, but did not recognise it until he was instructed by Eli (1 Samuel 3:1–10). Gideon had a physical revelation from God, and he still doubted what he had heard to the point of asking for a sign, not once, but three times (Judges 6:17–22,36–40). When we are listening for God’s voice, how can we know that He is the one speaking?

We have something that Gideon and Samuel did not. We have the complete Bible, the inspired Word of God, to read, study, and meditate on. The more time we spend intimately with God and His Word, the easier it is to recognise His voice and His leading in our lives. Sometimes God’s leading can come through the Holy Spirit, through our consciences, through circumstances, and through the exhortations of other people. By comparing what we hear to the truth of Scripture, we can learn to recognise God’s voice.

God Bless

WelcomeFebruary 19th, 2017

God Owns Everything!

“The earth is the LORD’S, and all it contains, the world, and those who dwell in it; for He has founded it upon the seas and established it upon the rivers.” (Psalm 24:1)

“The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.” (1 Corinthians 10:26)

“To the LORD your God belong the heavens, even the highest heavens, the earth and everything in it.” (Deuteronomy 10:14)

“Everything under heaven belongs to me.” (Job 41:11)

“…the world is mine, and all that is in it.” (Psalm 50:12)

“The heavens are yours, and yours also the earth; you founded the world and all that is in it.” (Psalm 89:11)

And He’s given us ‘stewardship’ of all He has entrusted to us. Wow.
