Crossway North Online Bulletin December 11th, 2016

Save the Date!

2017 is approaching fast and I am confident this will be a watershed year in the life of our Church. God is at work amongst us and I am looking forward to how the Lord will continue to lead and provide for us.

One of the important tasks we are planning is to ensure every Leader at Crossway North participates in an ‘Orientation’ Workshop; and that every Leader is recognised and prayed for at our Launch Sunday Service.

We will conduct our ‘Leader’s Orientation’ on two separate occasions giving Leaders the choice of which one suits them best to attend:

  •  Friday night, Feb 10th (7:30pm-9:00pm) or
  •  Saturday, Feb 11th (10:00am-11:30am)

Our ‘Launch’ Sunday will be Feb 12th

Please pray about next year – it’s going to be great.

God Bless, Brett ______________________________________________________________

Life @ Crossway North – Online Bulletin

Crossway North Online Bulletin December 4th, 2016

Safe Church

Victoria has introduced compulsory minimum standards that will apply to organisations that provide services for children to help protect children from all forms of abuse. The child safe standards form part of the Victorian Government’s response to the Betrayal of Trust Inquiry.

The child safe standards will apply to organisations from 1 January 2016 in phases:

  • Phase 1: Organisations that provide services for children that are government funded and/or regulated will be required to work towards compliance from 1 January 2016
  • Phase 2: Other organisations that provide services for children will be required to comply from 1 January 2017.

The child safe standards will be compulsory for all organisations in scope, but not prescriptive. This will allow the diverse range of organisations in scope some flexibility in how they implement the child safe standards to meet requirements.

At Crossway North we are committed to providing a ‘safe place’ for everyone; toward that end we have been spending time reviewing our policies and practices and will be implementing various policies and workshops in the weeks and months ahead. I would encourage everyone to embrace, and become familiar with, the new ‘child-safe standards’.

Next week, at our upcoming ‘Ordinary Church Meeting’, we will be adopting our ‘Child Safe Policy’ and various ‘Codes of Conduct’ for Church Leaders; Behaviour with Children; and dealing with a Breach of the Code.

God Bless, Brett ______________________________________________________________

Crossway North Online Bulletin November 27th, 2016

Encouragement

Imagine if you were given one day to meet your heroes from the Bible. Who would you like to meet? I’d run out of time before I ran out of people I’d like to meet. But if I could only pick a few there is one person I’d like to spend some time with. In Acts 4, we meet Joseph, a Levite from Cyprus. This man was well known to the early church. The Apostles changed Joseph’s name to Barnabas, which means ‘son of encouragement’. Barnabas, along with Paul, opened the Roman empire to the Gospel through their missionary work. I’d like to meet Barnabas because I love meeting encouraging people. I like his missionary passion; but for me, I’d like to spend some time with a son of encouragement. The Bible says we are all to be encouraging, “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you you are doing.” (1 Thessalonians 5:11) One of my greatest hopes for Crossway North is that we are known as a church of encouragers. Let us be known as sons and daughters of encouragement.

  God Bless, Rob ______________________________________________________________

Galatians 5:22-26 (Message)

‘Life by the Spirit’

But what happens when we live God’s way? He brings gifts into our lives, much the same way that fruit appears in an orchard—things like affection for others, exuberance about life, serenity. We develop a willingness to stick with things, a sense of compassion in the heart, and a conviction that a basic holiness permeates things and people. We find ourselves involved in loyal commitments, not needing to force our way in life, able to marshal and direct our energies wisely.

Legalism is helpless in bringing this about; it only gets in the way. Among those who belong to Christ, everything connected with getting our own way and mindlessly responding to what everyone else calls necessities is killed off for good—crucified.

Since this is the kind of life we have chosen, the life of the Spirit, let us make sure that we do not just hold it as an idea in our heads or a sentiment in our hearts, but work out its implications in every detail of our lives. That means we will not compare ourselves with each other as if one of us were better and another worse. We have far more interesting things to do with our lives. Each of us is an original.

Life @ Crossway North – Online Bulletin

Crossway North Online Bulletin November 20th, 2016

Baby Dedications

Over the coming two weeks we have two ‘Baby Dedications’ being conducted in our morning Services. In some other Christian traditions sometimes parents would have their children ‘Baptised’, so what is a dedication?

First and foremost a ‘Dedication’ is a Service of thanksgiving to God for the gift of this child; it is also a declaration of our trust in God for the life and well-being of this child; and finally, recognition of our responsibilities, as parents, to raise this child in a way that is consistent with our Christian faith.

This week and next week, we collectively affirm:

  •  Our thanks to God (2 Chronicles 5:13)
  • Our value to God (Matthew 10:31)
  • Our responsibility to God (Romans 14:10)
  • Our presentation to God (Deuteronomy 6:4-7)
  • Our confidence in God (Hebrews 4:16)

It’s a time to celebrate together.

God Bless,

Brett

God Bless,

Michelle.

Crossway North Online Bulletin November 13th, 2016

Superheroes!

Who was your superhero growing up? Superman who could fly? Spider-man who could climb walls? These were often men who looked just like anybody else – but then were transformed into an entirely different person. With this different identity came the power or ability to do superhuman things others couldn’t do.

Do you know you have been made a superhero by Jesus? When you accept Jesus as your Saviour, your old identity died and you were made brand new. With this identity-change came power and ability to do superhuman things – like lay hands on the sick and see them recover, to bind up the brokenhearted and lead people to become new creatures through Jesus.

When you become a Christian, you don’t just join a club. You become a brand new creature – a superhero! God’s Spirit comes to live in you and gives you power and authority to be a hero to the people around you.

Live each day looking for opportunities to help people like a superhero. Extend your help, give a smile, pray a prayer, be friendly and have joy with those you meet, share God’s love in word and deed. The bible is full of heroes who can guide us in the qualities of living like this. Why not read about some of them today!!

God Bless,

Michelle.

‘Let’s Pray’

Prayer is the fuel to the ‘engine’ of all we do. Nothing of significance will be achieved unless it is first birthed in prayer however, to pray earnestly and consistently does not always come naturally to all of us.

Here are seven strategies I came across, which assist us in fighting distractions from the most important spiritual discipline we can ever engage in:

  1. Pray with Scripture
  2. Pray with a pen
  3. Pray with fasting
  4. Pray with people
  5. Pray with purpose
  6. Pray with emotion
  7. Pray with the Gospel

Let’s pray.

God Bless,

Brett

Life @ Crossway North – Online Bulletin

Crossway North Online Bulletin October 30th, 2016

Connect

Last Sunday we had our first Connect Leaders Training Day with Pastor Rob. We had a great group of people looking at what we want our Connect Groups to be. The first thing we want is to see 100% of adults joining a connect group in 2017. That means you.

Connect Groups are about transformation. Paul said in Romans 12:1-2, “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God- this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is- his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

When we connect at Crossway North we will grow as followers of Jesus. There are three components to a Connect Group. The first component is that Connect Groups will help us Connect with God. The second component is that Connect Groups will help us to connect with each other. The third component is that Connect Groups will help us to connect with a lost world.

If you would like to find out more about Connect Groups and possibly joining one then talk to Pastor Rob.

God Bless,

Rob Tanner

Crossway North Online Bulletin October 23rd, 2016

The ‘Right’ Focus

One day, a school teacher wrote the following on the board:

9 x 1 = 7
9 x 2 = 18
9 x 3 = 27
9 x 4 = 36
9 x 5 = 45
9 x 6 = 54

When he was finished he looked to his students and the class began to laugh. When he asked them why, one student pointed out that the first equation was wrong. The teacher responded by saying, “I wrote the first one wrong on purpose to show you something very important. This is how the world will treat you. You can see that I wrote 5 other RIGHT answers, but none one gave me recognition for that. You all laughed and criticised me for the one wrong thing that I did. The world will not always appreciate the good that you do, but it will put you down for the one  mistake you make. Always rise above the criticism and stay strong!”

We are hard on ourselves and others at times. We get down on ourselves for the one mistake we make and we are critical of others’ mistakes, failing to look at all the things that are right. I think we all need to make a new rule:

“Name 5 things that are right before we criticise what is wrong.”

God Bless,

Michelle Mitchell

Life @ Crossway North – Online Bulletin

Crossway North Online Bulletin October 16th, 2016

Our Vision

Last week, Pastor Rob asked us, ‘What is it that the Church is known for?’

Perhaps, we could make this a little more personal and ask ourselves a couple of similar questions:

  •  What are YOU or I known for?
  •  What is Crossway North known for?
  •  What do we ‘stand-up for’ or what is ‘important’ to us?

At the end of his Life Ned Kelly is reported to have said, ‘Such is life’. Comedian Spike Milligan infamous epitaph read, ‘I told you I was ill’. What legacy do we plan to leave?

Crossway North is working toward this:

‘We see God leading a caring family, thriving through discipleship; Local; Regional; Global; and birthing new mission.’

We can ALL play a part in fulfilling this vision.

God Bless,

Brett Mitchell

Life @ Crossway North – Online Bulletin

Crossway North Online Bulletin October 9th, 2016

Time for a spiritual check-up?

I recently heard someone say something that challenged me. What is the the church known for? Unfortunately, across the church in the west we are often known for what we are against instead of what we are for.

Jesus said in John 10:10b that he had come to to give life , and life to the full. Jesus was all about the Kingdom coming and how that would transform our lives. While Jesus certainly confronted issues and sin. He did it in a way that showed how amazing God’s love was which brings a blessed life.

Sunday’s message is all about taking a stand on God’s promises and accepting what Jesus has promised.

Jesus and His church stand for love.

Jesus and His church stand for forgiveness.

Jesus and His church stand for hope.

Jesus and His church stand for purpose.

“And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.
You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:5-8 (NIV)

Let Crossway North be known for proclaiming a message of love, hope, forgiveness and purpose.

God Bless,

Rob Tanner
